- In Outlook Express, click Accounts on the Tools menu.
- In the Internet Accounts dialog box, click Add, and then click Mail.
- In the Display Name box, type the name you want others to see
when you send a message, and then click Next.
- In the E-mail Address box, type the e-mail address for the
account you are using (for example, "yourusername@four.net"),
and then click Next.
- Under E-mail Server Names, select POP3 if it is not
already selected, and then type the names of the incoming and
outgoing mail servers. Whichever dialup number you are using at
FOURnet, always use mail.four.net as both the incoming and
outgoing mail server. Click Next.
- Type your POP account name and password in the POP Account Name
and Password boxes. Use lowercase letters for your username,
and there should be no spaces either within or after your
username. Your POP account name is not your real name; your
POP account name is normally the same as your login name (what you
use to login to FOURnet). Click Next.
- In the Internet Mail Account Name box, type a name to identify
the mail account you are configuring. This is known as the
"friendly" name for the account. Although this name is
optional, use your FOURnet username to avoid confusion. Click Next.
- Click the connection type that you use to connect to the
Internet, and then click Next.
If you click "Use my phone line to connect," you are
prompted to either create a new Dial-Up Networking connection or
use an existing one. Click "Use an existing dial-up
connection," click the name for your Dial-Up Networking
connection in the list, and then click Next.
- Click Finish.
- Test Your Configuration by attempting to send and retrieve mail.
First, establish a FOURnet login as you normally would, using an
existing connection which is known to be working. Next, launch the
Outlook Email client and record any status messages which you
might receive as well as the exact date, time, and dialup number
you are calling. If you receive an error message such as
"login failed" or "password incorrect", then
it is likely that you have entered either your username or
password incorrectly in the Outlook configuration process. Start
again at the beginning, and try again following each step closely,
making sure that you have entered all information correctly and in
the appropriate boxes.
